Open call: Contemporary ceramic relief in dialogue with Stig Lindberg.

Stockholm County Council invites professional artists to apply for the public art commission Contemporary ceramic relief in dialogue with Stig Lindberg, at Nacka hospital.

The commission involves using ceramic as a medium to create visual expressions for a total of seven walls at the elevator halls located on seven floors, and nearby locations. These spaces are also entrances to psychiatric wards. By shaping these sites, the tradition of ceramic art at Nacka hospital lives on. The commissioned work should be in direct dialogue with the existing ceramic artwork at the hospital's main entrance, created 1965 by the artist Stig Lindberg.

Description of the Art Commission

Nacka hospitals is being rebuilt and renovated in three phases. First of which, the psychiatric wards, is planned to be completed winter 2018. The art commission is an important part of this investment. With artistic expressions, the hospital environment will be vitalized with humanistic dimension.

The commission involves using ceramic relief as a medium to create visual expressions for a continuous wall in the elevator hall that links together seven floors, and nearby locations.

Each floor should be given a unique expression where the artwork will be adapted to its context and be site specific. Suitable techniques for the commission can be, for example, sand-casted ceramic relief, which can be integrated onto the wall with plaster.
General information about our commissioning process and our specific demands on artists we work with can be found in our FAQ.

Conditions on site

A continuous wall at the elevator halls that links together seven floors will be visually shaped with ceramic relief. The commission concerns a total of seven walls each measuring circa 5,3 m wide x 2,4/2,7 m tall. In addition, two smaller, wall-mounted ceramic objects will be created for floor 10 and floor 3. The elevator halls serve as entrances to psychiatric wards. Consideration should be given to the architecture and colour scheme, as well as the hospital’s requests relating to safety and design aspects.
